HISTORY, SPIRITUALITY AND DEVOTIONS
Pilgrims of Love
We, the Pilgrims of Love, are a fraternity of lay missionaries carrying a sacramental and prayer life in community, centered especially in the Eucharistic adoration, devotion to the Child Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary, in complete and strict obedience to the Pope and the Church hierarchy. We commit ourselves to the urgent task of the new evangelization, actively participating in the salvific mission of the Church, "of carrying forth the Gospel of Christ, the source of hope for humanity and the renewal of society". (Christifidelis Laici, n.29)
As Pilgrims of Love, we are far from having reached holiness, but we urge each other to have this as our goal; we are aware that our life's witness to the world is a sign of the presence of Christ in his Church. Each one of us are witnesses to what we believe and we must be consistent and coherent with the faith we profess.
1.1 Our Foundation
In 1999, in Bogota (Colombia), Marino Restrepo founded a community by the name of Pilgrims of Love. From that year on, we began an ongoing activity of evangelization that gradually reached several countries, based on his experience of profound conversion during a kidnapping that radically changed his life in 1997.
On June 16th, 2011, with Decree No. 086, the Ecclesiastical Court, headed by Cardinal Ruben Salazar Gomez, approved the Pilgrims of Love Foundation as part of the Archdiocese of Bogota.
The spirituality of our foundation is focused on daily adoration and celebration of the Holy Eucharist, and in an intimate affiliation with the Blessed Virgin Mary, cultivated by the daily recitation of the Rosary. Our role model is the Divine Child Jesus. Jesus, who said, "Let the children come to me" (Lk. 18:16), was also child and wants us to be humble and pure like children to enter His Kingdom. Meditating on his childhood, Jesus blesses us and arouses in us its virtues. The Tradition of the Church 's devotion to the Divine Child has been practiced especially in the Carmelite Order. St. Therese of the Child Jesus, called the "Little Flower of Jesus", was also one who practiced a very special devotion to the Divine Child. This mysterious relationship of the saints with Jesus in His infancy, goes back to the beginnings of Christianity.
Our mother house is located in Bogota (Colombia). But mission houses have been founded by Pilgrims' groups in other countries of the world, following our spirituality and supporting the development of our mission, with the blessing of the respective parish priests and bishops.
We conduct our missionary vocation within the context of the new evangelization, that is precisely, "the Church's ability to renew her communal experience of faith and to proclaim it within the new situations which, in recent decades, have arisen in cultures (The New Evangelization for the Transmission of the Christian Faith No 47).
Specifically, the purpose of the Pilgrims of Love in the service of the Catholic Church, and centered in the New Evangelization is:
A) Ecclesial communion:
-To be the missionary house for parishes, under the proper jurisdiction, and to collaborate and conduct missionary and pastoral activities in conjunction with the parishes, in faithful obedience to the Ordinary.
-To give formation to lay catholic missionaries, while encouraging a sense of belonging to their own parish.
B) Preaching the Gospel:
- In total obedience to the Magisterium and the Tradition of the Church.
- In words and actions, being charity the spirit of the mission
- Missionary commitment with poor and marginalized communities
1.5 Spiritual Commitments of the Pilgrims of Love
Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel! Says the apostle Paul (1 Cor. 9:16).
As Pilgrims of Love we will:
✤ Promote Eucharistic Adoration, starting with our own commitment animated by the love of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, participating every day with special love in community prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, and worshiping the Lord at least an hour a day in silence and contemplation. Also participating in the 24-hour vigils on the first Friday of the month that are held in our mission and parish houses, and other moments of prayer to be established in community life
✤ Pray for the Holy Father, the Church, priests and religious, as well as priestly and religious vocations, recognizing the essential value of the Holy Father, the priests and religious, and the increasing decline in priestly and religious vocations, we commit to pray for this intention every day, as part of our community prayer
“You are not being sent to proclaim some abstract truth. The Gospel is not a theory or an ideology! The Gospel is life!” John Paul II. WYD Philippines 1995.
✤ Invite the baptized who have left the Church to return to its bosom and rekindle in them and their families the fire of faith
✤ Invite and welcome those who are trying to give spiritual meaning to their lives, helping them to find the truth and love of the Catholic Church
✤ Rescuing the value of the teachings of the Magisterium of the Church in matters of faith and morals, and restore the beauty of the liturgy
✤ Formate the Faithful in the Papal Magisterium, particularly through the study of the encyclicals, apostolic exhortations and other papal documents
